Please see Specials page for details! n nAs part of the Truman Annex, this stately four-bedroom, three-bath home on Admiral 's Lane is tucked away in the beauty and privacy of thick tropical foliage. The Annex neighborhood, named for President Harry Truman who wintered at The Little White House just blocks away, is Old Town 's premiere gated waterfront community. The manicured landscaping, verdant palms, white picket fences, and interconnecting pathways give the Annex a park-like atmosphere even Frederick Olmsted, the father of landscape architecture, would have to admire were he alive today. n nWhat you see first when you turn onto the Admiral 's Lane cul-de-sac is a bricked-in parking area. At this point nothing more is revealed except a roofed entranceway with a heavy wooden door. It 's through this door that you transition from the street to the vacation home of a lifetime. n nA few steps in, you spy the prestigious two-story fac3a7ade painted white accented by Cove Blue shutters. Walk to your left to stand by the heated pool designed in a visually interesting zigzag pattern and nearby the ultimate warm-weather luxury, an outside shower. At certain times of day, sunshine plays through palm fronds creating a pattern of shadows and bright sparkle over the pool surface. n nStep up two steps to the wrap-around covered porch. The front portion offers two hospitality areas on either side of the front door with old Florida ceiling fans whirring above. And even further above is the second-story balcony tucked under the deep architectural roof projection and accessible only from the master bedroom. n nBut while you 're still outdoors, check out the side portion of the porch featuring a pair of chaise lounge chairs contoured to support your body should you want to stretch out overlooking the pool. Picture yourself settling in for conversation, to use the wireless connection to check your email, to read a guide book or novel, or to just to savor the weather. Or walk further back to find the outside dining area under a Casablanca-type fan chandelier. Adjacent is the barbeque grill, ready for you to cook fresh local fish or a generous cut of Porterhouse. Already you 're sure you 've rented the right place, and you haven 't even been inside yet. n nEnter this lovely home through the front door into the living room or through the first set of French doors into the dining room, these side-by-side panel doors lend light, elegance, and function not only to the these room but throughout the house, upstairs and down. Once inside, you 'll find an open floor plan and notice the palm motif from outside has been brought inside with plants, paintings, and a leaded glass art piece at the stairwell. n nJust beyond the dining area is the U-shaped kitchen featuring all modern appliances, including a Jenn-Air indoor grill. The wrap-around counter is nicely set up so a portion curves around into breakfast bar. Have cereal or coffee here. Or imagine the space as an interface of food preparation and conversation with cooking on one side and admirers seated in tall wicker bar chairs looking on, maybe advising the cook to use more pepper. n nNext comes the hallway leading to the back rooms and a full bath. At the hall 's end, you 'll find a comfortable den for TV and movie viewing. To the left are more French doors, this set leads right out onto the side porch. To your right, on the other side of the den, is a light and airy bedroom for guests or family. These rooms complete the first floor. n nBack up front, past the artisan-carved armoire housing the living room TV, take the wide staircase to the second floor bedrooms and baths. To your left, down the hall, is a master suite of bold proportions, including bath with Jacuzzi soaking tub, shower, and double sinks. This bedroom and the others on this floor have cushy wall-to-wall carpeting in contrast to the solid hardwood floors throughout the rest of the house. n nThe king-size four-poster canopy bed features the rich detail of Spanish Revival furniture with tied-back sheer drapes. The style will remind you of a classic museum piece or family heirloom. Next to the bed, you 'll again find those elegant French doors, this time they lead onto a generous balcony with seating area private enough to enjoy in bathrobes. Across the room, beyond the wicker chair with overstuffed pillows and wicker ottoman, behind louvered doors, you 'll find what by Key West standards constitutes generous closet space. Need even more space? Open the woven bamboo armoire housing not only the TV but also three large drawers for clothes or whatever. n nIf you can tear yourself away to retrace your steps down the hallway, you 'll find the laundry facility, two smaller bedrooms, and yet another full bath. The space and amenities seem never-ending. n nMaybe it 's hard to imagine venturing from this amazing piece of real estate, but you must because the tours, beaches, museums, water sports, shopping, restaurants, and bars of the southernmost city await you. And many are just steps beyond your neighborhood. n n25% DISCOUNT for Monthly stays! Perfect location for being close to Duval (you could walk there in 4 minutes) yet the safety and quiet of Truman annex was nice. Historic Hideaways was very easy to work with and very accommodating. I will use them again and if same amount of family members go will also try to rent the same property. - 2012 n nBest Vacation Yet n nCame down to Key West with family to celebrate my son 's 21st birthday. Everyone from 76 year old grandma to 21 year old son had a blast. House was very clean, very spacious, and location is perfect. Truman annex is an upscale, quiet, gated neighborhood, but very close to the action in old town. We walked to all our favorite haunts in just a few minutes. We will return! - 2012 n nNice home with pool in a great spot n nOur large family has been vacationing in Key West for several years and this home with its own pool is in a great location. No need for a rental car, take a taxi from the airport and walk to everything! All that Duval St. has to offer is just steps away - restaurants, bars & shopping - plus the beautiful sunsets at Mallory Square. The outdoor area is spacious, great for lounging & dining and we loved the heated pool and outdoor shower. The pool deck is a bit shady for sunbathers. The kitchen was well stocked and the grill came in handy. We used Fausto 's grocery delivery service for an initial run and walked/scootered to replenish when necessary... ...Overall, one of the best houses we 've stayed in. - 2012
