Description:The main villa on the estate, Villa Trappola, was built in 1283 as a tower 30 metres high to defend the coastline from marauding Saracens. nThe tower is surrounded by a landscaped garden, planted in the summer of 2005 after the extensive restoration of the villa was completed. Care was taken to plant large shrubs and trees so that the garden looks as though it had always been there. The owners of the estate live in a house adjacent to the villa. nAll that remains of the tower today are the lower ramparts which give the building an arcane aspect of strength and solidity. Villa Trappola extends over three floors. A large, modern kitchen with adjoining dining room and TV lounge occupy the ground floor. The first floor is made up of a large living space and two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The top floor has another three bedrooms and three bathrooms. A second kitchen here conveniently serves as a breakfast kitchen. nThe extensive restoration of the house included the new kitchen and bathrooms, while the other rooms in the house received a complete face-lift. The decor is elegant and comfortable in harmony with the patrician style of this historic residence. nThe garden extends over an extensive lawn shaded by maritime pines for al fresco dining and a pool area (children-proof) . nThe beach is at 4 km from the house at the end of a country lane winding through the National Park, affording fascinating glimpses of the local fauna. The sandy beach is white and deep, with the islands of the archipelago on the horizon. It is rare here to meet your Man Friday, there are few parts of Tuscany so secluded and well preserved. nBedroom / Bathroom Description nBedroom 1 nDouble bed, En-suite bathroom with shower nBedroom 2 nTwin bed, Bathroom with tub nBedroom 3 nDouble bed, En-suite bathroom with shower nBedroom 4 nSingle bed, En-suite bathroom with tub nBedroom 5 nTwin bed, Bathroom with tub nBedroom 6 nSingle bed nFeatures & Amenities n* Child friendly villa n* Heating system n* Satellite TV n* DVD player n* CD player n* Telephone n* Internet key n* Washer/dryer n* Toiletries n* Hairdryer n* Microwave n* Dishwasher nOutdoor Features n* Swimming pool e28093 open between mid May and September n* Pool security n* Beach towels n* Outdoor furniture n* Outdoor dining n* Gated property n* Parking nStaff & Services nIncluded: n* Monday to Saturday housekeeping for 2 hours nAt Extra Cost e28093 advance notice may be required: n* Villa pre-stocking n* Activities and excursions n* Baby equipment n* Bike rental n* Boat rental n* Cook service n* Meal plan n* Child service n* Telephone charges n* Heating consumption nVilla Policies n* Maximum 10 guests n* Maximum 9 children n* Non-smoking villa n* Pets are not allowed n* Fireplace may not be lit nGetting There n* Rental car recommended n* Transport available nLocation n* 4 km to beach n* 7 minute drive to restaurant n* 10 minute drive to Grosseto grocery store & town n* 15 minute drive to church & train station n* 20 minute drive to hospital & tennis court n* 40 minute drive to golf course n* 105 minute drive to Rome Airport nAdditional Information nThe olive trees on the Trappola estate are a rare species of wild olives, locally known as olivastri. A morning can be pleasantly spent touring the Trappola lands in a horse carriage culminating in a lunch served under these biblical olivastri. nA delightful walk from Torre Trappola leads to the ruins of the church of San Rabano within the borders of the National Park . nThe Maremma National Park extends over 10.000 hectares along the coast. The Park has many signposted tracks affording views of herds of the lyre-horned cattle of the Maremma still rounded up by the local cowboys known as butteri and the indigenous horses of Maremma in the wild. nSiena: at one hour 's drive from Torre Trappola, this is one of the most enchanting towns in Tuscany fanning out around a shell-shaped main square called Il Campo where the historic horse race known as Il Palio is held twice a year. The narrow streets are lined with old-fashioned boutiques and little cafes, while the churches and museums are a treasure trove of fourteenth century art. nTrendy beach resorts: you will find the jet-set holiday resorts of Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole at only a 45minutes drive from the Trappola estate. A visit to the daily fish market in the picturesque harbor of Castiglione della Pescaia featuring the day 's catch straight from the fishing boats is highly recommended. (30 minutes from Trappola) nThe WWF Maremma National Park: The Park encompasses seven towers, the remains of an abbey and twenty six grottoes. In summer the National Park can only be visited accompanied by a guide. Visits by night from 8 to 11 pm are a special thrill. nThe islands: boats leave daily for the islands of Giglio and Giannutri from the nearby fishing village of Castiglione della Pescaia. Giglio is a charming unspoiled island with a village dominated by a castle dating back to the time of the Aragons and many secluded bays and creeks. Giannutri is not unlike some of the less exploited Greek islands and is a favorite haunt of deep sea divers as they say a sunken Roman galleon is buried in its depths. nThe spa of Saturnia: Saturnia, an hour 's drive away, is the most spectacular natural hot water spring and spa in Tuscany with a luxury spa hotel as well as pale blue waterfalls of hot water cascading down the hillside in the open countryside. nThe beach nA deserted beach lies only 4 kms from the house and can only be accessed on a private country lane. nYou may drive to the beach by car, yet it is also a wonderful opportunity for a bike ride or a walk, as one is able to view fascinating wild life along the way. nOn the beach you will find shade under a large sail, which can be fixed onto four poles. nThe white fine sand is wonderful for taking long walks, the water is clean and warm enough to swim in from mid-May to October. nGuided Tours on the Estate nThe estate of Torre Trappola lies within the boundaries of the WWF National parc e2809cParco delle28099Uccellinae2809d. The owner of Torre Trappola can organise guided trips, exploring the estate on horses or in a carriage. It is necessary to book in advance. Tour on horses (max 5 e28093 6 people) for 3 hours at ~e282ac60/person. Tour in a horse drawn carriage (for 9 people) for 3 hours at ~e282ac160. On this tour you are able to see various animals such as horses, cows, fallow deer, wild boars and foxes. You have the opportunity to view birds of the region at small artificial lakes and the swampland. Tours always vary a little (depending on the season and the number of people).

Spacious, comfortable, meticulously furnished, and centrally located, this Italian villa is your home away from home. Of course, we're guessing your real home doesn't have a view like this...! Whether you're exploring the Umbrian hill towns, tasting at Tuscan vineyards, or simply sitting under your own pergola enjoying la dolce vita, this Tuscan villa rental with a castle view is the place for you. n n[2,500 m2] Built in the 1920's, this villa rests on the edge of the medieval village of Torre Alfina, overlooking the Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve. At an elevation of 620 meters, the air is crisp and fresh, and the entire area enjoys wonderful views of the countryside of Latium, Umbria, and Tuscany. The house itself is surrounded by a garden, described as wild, yet contained. Here you will find mature trees, lavender, and grapes-- all blended together with colorful bursts of flowers. Depending on the time of year, the gardener/caretaker of thirty years will share fresh garden vegetables, and in the winter you can gather chestnuts to roast from the 150-year-old tree in the yard. The focal point of the garden is really the pergola, overhung with grape vines and providing an oasis of shade and hospitality. Here you can relax at the outdoor dining table [seats 12] and listen to the sounds of birds, braying neighborhood donkeys, and church bells tolling in the piazza. The garden also includes a wisteria-covered gazebo and a wine house with cellar. This villa also has access to a hotel pool located nearby. n n[275 m2] Inside this lovely villa, antiques lend old-world style and elegance, while plush imported mattresses and linens provide all the comfort you want on your holiday! The second and third rooms share a bathroom with two sinks, a toilet, and a Jacuzzi tub with a handheld showerhead. n nThis villa sits virtually in the shadow of an impressive medieval castle in the village of Torre Alfina, located in the middle of the Etruscan Highlands. The village is built around the castle, which belonged to the Monaldeschi and Bourbon del Monte families in turn, until it was purchased by Edoardo Cahen in 1880. The village has excellent views and two wonderful restaurants that are very traditional in style. There are also two small groceries, two cafes, and a gelateria. Traditional festivals are held throughout the year [see Nearby Attractions, below], and something is always in season: flowers, vegetables, grapes, chestnuts, and pinoli [pine nuts]. This is also a great central location, convenient to many of Italy's best known destinations-- and some of its best kept secrets! It sits on the northernmost tip of Lazio [in Viterbo], a point that pushes right between Tuscany and Umbria so that all three regions are right at your doorstep. The villa borders the Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, a vast expanse of forests and nature trails, great for walking or horseback riding. Just a few kilometers away you will find Lago di Bolsena, Europe's largest volcanic lake. Here you can participate in freshwater fishing, sailing, swimming, and sunbathing. A drive of a half hour to an hour will bring you to the towns of Civita di Bagnoregio, Orvieto, Pitigliano, Sorano, Sovana, and Viterbo, as well as the thermal springs of San Casciano dei Bagni. A larger radius of 165 km [75 miles] will put you within reach of Assisi, Florence, Gradoli, Gubbio, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Perugia, Pienza, Rome, and Spoleto.
